Write about Polices, Procedures and Standards in DBMS?

Polices, procedures & standards are used for correct data creation, usage , distribution & deletion with in the data base.

The DBA must define , document & communicate the policies, procedures & standards before they can be enforced.`

Polices  : These are general statements of direction (or) action that communicate & support DBA goals.

Standards : Describe the minimum requirements of a given DBA activity. They are more detailed & specific them policies. standards are rules that are used to evaluate the quality of the activity.

Procedures : These are written instructions that describe a series of steps to be followed during the performance of a given activity.

Ex:

Policies : A password must have a minimum of five characters & maximum of 12 characters. Social security numbers, names & birth dates can’t be used as passwords.

Procedures : To create a password

1. The end user sends to the DBA a written request for the creation of an account.

2. The DBA approves the request and forwards it to the computer operator.

3. The computer operator creates the accounts and assigns temporary passwords & sends to the end user.

4. User changes the temporary password to a permanent one.
